A thought...

Some Christians take the biblical idea of "honoring authority", and use it as a reason to not challenge corruption.

I would offer that the biblical mandate of honoring authority has different implications in a Democratic Republic.

In a Democratic Republic, the Will of the King, has been replaced by The Will of the People.

The highest political authority is the People themselves. Living in a nation like this requires you to think and act as an authority, because you have that responsibility.

When you use "honoring authority" as an excuse to stay passive, you are actually dishonoring authority, and abdicating your responsibility. It is not much different than a King abdicating his authority, and allowing others to over-ride the authority he is required to use for good.

We do not have leaders in the American political system. We have representatives. Representatives whose only responsibility is to carry out the Will of the People, and uphold the Constitution. When they fail to do this, you have a responsibility to exercise your authority. You are not "voters". This is intentional wording meant to reduce your authority. You are The People. Do not neglect your authority. God will hold you responsible.
