Uncommon opinion: lightning still sucks.

Half the time the non custodial solutions don’t work.

The fees can still get really expensive.

Balancing channels is a pain in the ass that most people will not deal with.

I’m optimistic that a second layer #bitcoin solution will emerge but it seems premature to conclude that lightning is the answer when it still has so many problems and other solutions like liquid/fedimint exist. Liquid just works so much better and never gives me a headache the way lightning does.

Sadly no one I know accepts liquid

I think lightning is pretty sweet. It’s not a flawless user experience (yet) but it does an amazing job at compressing more transactions into blockspace and providing instant settlement. I think most people who can’t figure out how to interact with lightning themselves will use semi-trustless solutions like liquid or other local/national federations, and that’s ok. Options will only improve with time and the ability to very quickly move between options will keep people more honest.
