It’s for people who want to own their social data and communities instead of relying on someone else’s server.

Think of it like running a Bitcoin node: a Bitcoin node gives you sovereignty over your money, and nostrcheck-server gives you sovereignty over your identity, posts and feeds.

What are space requirements for self-hosting at home for avg user?

Very few resources, it runs perfectly on a Raspberry Pi. As for storage, it will depend on how you want to use it.
