Iris rejects messages from users who your social network hasn't interacted with. For now Martti has set it to no limits to the hops. But you could potentially set it manually if you encounter spam from the edges of your social network.

Great idea! Do you know if Iris is only requesting events from your contacts and theirs, or is it gathering all events and filtering them? My problem with the firehose + filter method is that it's very bandwidth intensive. That doesn't matter on desktop or mobile + wifi, but when you're out and about it can be a huge data suck. There've been multiple notes about people draining their monthly bandwidth allowance on their phones using Nostr.
