here the people have been carring around rosemary and twigs of olive and today in the church everyone had a bouquet of it, i didn't know, but a nice lady gave me a couple branches of olive from hers so i could hold it up for the rite. the rosemary is such a nice smell...
i never knew about how this thing was done... there was also a recitation of the story of the crucifixion and the priest spoke the parts of Jesus, i understood enough of the portuguese to hear familiar lines from that story, honestly, while i might say that the amount of ritual and the sheer volume of text involved seems intimidating to learn especially for me watching it in portuguese but they never did it anything as nice as this at the protestant churches... feels more ... appropriate, considering the nature of the text
Don't miss Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Those are real Mass highlights, tho so solemn.
They're long Masses, tho.

You don't have to do anything. I meant, just make sure that you go to those Masses, as they're special.
