We are conned into thinking 1971 prices are ‘quaint olde timey’ prices. We tend to chuckle at how ‘cheap’ things were almost as if people must have been more naive back then.

But in reality these ‘prices’ reflect the stronger purchasing power of the dollar before it was untethered from gold.
