We can’t assume the Pentagon has been wise with free money. The whole mission isn’t a waste like USAID, but the folks who brought you trans admirals need an audit. What am I missing?

having worked briefly for a defense contractor I know there's a ton of waste
Yes, Defense is one of the actual constitutional actions of the government. Unfortunately, I'm betting more than half of the department's spending does absolutely nothing to defend our nation. If we stopped being the world's policemen, stopped giving away weaponry, and stopped spying on our own citizens, I'm betting we could increase our defense capability and still cut spending.
