I received my Lamy Aion!

Now this is a nice pen. The entire thing is metal (except for the converter but that's expected) and it's got this brushed, matte finish. The nib is an extra fine that is exclusive to this pen and it writes beautifully!

The cap snaps on nicely and posts as well. Considering there are more metal components in this pen than the Sheaffer, it is actually lighter than they are! I would say this pen is largely comparable to the Sheaffer 300 in most respects but the build quality is definitely a little better.

For smaller hands, this might not be the pen you would want as it is a little wide, though light. If you can deal with that, it's a wonderful pen and I wouldn't hesitate to swap Lamy's 14k gold nib onto it to make it a truly premium writing experience.

Rollerballs, ballpoints, gel pens etc. are fiat.

Fountain pens are BTC.

You get an overall subpar writing experience from your rollerballs and pallpoints. Gel pens are a bit better but still not great. The benefit is that you can write on pretty much any shit paper and it'll work. Generally, these are all made to be tossed after they run out of ink which means they are cheap and plentiful.

Fountain pens give you a much better writing experience overall but typically you'll want to invest in better paper as well. The ink is watery but nibs deliver it well and a big benefit is that you can refill these.

Fountain pens are really for those who have a writing habit of any kind. If you journal, take notes, study or are an artist, a fountain pen is a worthy investment. They last longer as they are built better, they have a more customizable and personal writing experience and they come in many shapes and sizes and price ranges so it's easy to find one that works for you.
