The Austrians believe that the pressures/constraints described in the Malthusian law of population growth is actually what precipitated the inventiveness that allowed for the Neolithic Era (with the establishment of land as private property, the family unit vs tribal communes, and agricultuee) and the Industrial Era.
The idea is that technology often skews consumption side, resulting in a Malthusian Trap, before innovation and other factors improves the production side of the economy.
