I was shocked when I listened to Foundations talk about the Passport Prime, and stated that only 5% of Bitcoiners use hardware wallets?! Is this really true is it really that rare?

I would agree and it’s not the first time I hear that.

I'm not surprised honestly, the majority of people who hold any BTC are just holding it for the fiat value and they absolutely plan to sell it in the future back into fiat. So buying hardware wallets seems like a complete waste to them. Getting people out of exchanges is hard enough so getting people to get hardware is never gonna be the norm for the average user.

Also I understand that not everyone who has BTC plans on selling it back into fiat I'm speaking of the normie people who just hold it for this purpose.

I don’t know much at all about BTC but I use hardware wallets and don’t buy shitcoins. I’m slowly learning more but have a long way to go.

Bitcoiners =/= people that also have bitcoin

Well I agree somewhat but in the context of my question I think what I meant is pretty clear. You could probably ask 100 bitcoiners what qualifies as a bitcoiner and you would get a 100 different definition.
