What’s news? That’s he has converted to Catholicism?

To Christianity.

I thought it was specifically Catholicism, but I don’t know how much was I misinterpreting something I heard. Cultural bias here

He's talked about Catholicism, but he was baptized in the River Thames on April 28, 2024, by his friend, Bear Grylls.

Russel Brand is an attention seeking one trick pony whose penchant for esoteric prose barely masks the fact that he doesn't actually have anything to say.

Mid-wits are attracted to him like moths to a flame.

You'll be hard-pressed to get me to criticize anyone with an audience preaching Christ crucified.

Even the devil can quote scripture for his own end

The Devil quotes scripture to lead people away from Christ, not to encourage people to seek Him.

Call me cynical

Cynical. 😁

The freshly baptized tend to be more enthusiastic than consistent or orthodox. No need to be cynical. Pilgrims all start the journey someplace, but he at least has a chance at arriving, now.

I love the melodic way he talks. Reminds me of a Bible thumper from the Dirty South.

RUSSEL BRAND HAS FINALLY FOUND SOMETHING TO SAY, THAT I ACTUALLY WANT TO HEAR. 😁

Very strange, this. A few weeks after his “conversion” he started baptising people in a river. I don’t think anyone knows any denomination.

Well, any baptised Christian is a priest and can perform valid baptisms. đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž

Really ? I’ll have to take your word. The people at the Irreverend podcast weren’t impressed.

No, I apologize. I was wrong. Anyone, even someone who has not been baptized, can perform a valid baptism.

They must baptize with intention and with water, and invoke the Trinity.

Thanks, interesting

A lot of denominations don't allow laypersons to baptize, except in emergencies. Like midwives and doctors or etc. But that's their church's law, usually to ensure that baptisms are conducted properly and recorded officially, not some restriction of the sacrament itself.

It's the same with marriage. The spouses marry each other, and that is valid, but if a priest doesn't convene the marriage, they are supposed to have the marriage convalidated at a later date. Like Erika and Charlie recently did. đŸ„č
