Kinda bearish on simplex tbh, UX is just too janky, my friends and family never gonna use it
Discussion
Thought simplex was a protocol though?
Anything in specific that you dislike, that if changed would significantly improve the whole experience?
Or is it a more of an overall stance 🤔
Just sort of slow, notifications sometimes don't work, hosting your own server is buggy, just wasn't good experience for me
Would have to agree unfortunately, still a lot to be done for it to go mainstream like Signal has
The buggyness I can get through. It doesn't crash as often as amethyst (amethyst is moving way more data though). But I think it's main flaw is moving device to device is to backup and restore your database. Though for a secure chat platform that can use onions and host your down server, I kinda don't mind just throwing away an 'identity' anyway I reckon
It does not have push notifications, if you want them fast the app needs to run all the time.
It seems ok to me beyond the initial getting used to. What do you not like about it?
Bearish on friends and family
Jokes aside I agree.
It’s unfortunate that so many cool technologies can’t get the traction they deserve until they are watered down to shit for “mass consumption”.
Agree. But the tech is interesting and it works well enough. It is easier to improve the UI than the core system. Like that you can self host as well.
