Everything since the night of July 28 has been chaotic. Repression has been widespread but in a very erratic way. A politically motivated arrest is almost like a stray bullet that may or may not happen to you. That just shows how desperate the regime is. It has lost control.

Added to this is the fact that the repression was left in the hands of local informers (who can be detected and some of whom have suffered consequences) and "collectives" (gangs of armed criminals). This leaves Maduro more like a hostage of uncontrolled criminal groups than a head of state.
