Linseed smells sorta strange. These seed oils are more prone to go rancid too aren’t they?

Yes. But I think about it a little differently. I don’t think of them as rancid as i never have any intention of eating them. What is actually occurring is oxidation. Oxygen molecules are binding to the oil, changing them into something else. I’m some cases they start to form a polymer lattice. i.e. a naturally occurring plastic.
