Ever wonder why there is no RDI for fiber?

It's because it's not essential.

But, let's get real... Fiber is like that one aunt at the family reunion - we're all about you, but nobody actually asks for your opinion or wants to sit next to you during dinner Anyone "not essential" just doesn't know what good fiber can do for us! #FiberPower #RDIPlease

Isn't RDI kinda nonsensical though, even as reference? Just as value is subjective, seems that nutritional needs will vary on the person and also time, place, activity and etc.

Also, seems the U.S. has listed dietary fiber with a RDI/DV?

Isn't this dependent on who you ask? The Food and Nutrition board have their recommendations, but there are plenty of other Drs with differing, research backed opinions.

Do you agree with the current RDA's for protein consumption? If not, then isn't this a bit disingenuous?

Aren't the populations with the longest lifespans/healthspans (currently) more plant-based?

Not criticizing your work, I just don't understand the maximalist, all or nothing view on nutrition, from any perspective.

While he's not a nutritionist per se, Peter Attia's opinion on this topic makes more intrinsic sense to me. Don't eat processed garbage, stay away from sugar, and choose the diet you can consistently adhere to long-term.

If humans were only optimized for one specialty diet (carnivore, vegetarian, keto, etc.) wouldn't we have died out a long time ago?

I'm a new subscriber and really like your content, so I'm just here to learn.

Everyone, including the NIH, believes there is a minimum requirement for protein, but argue about the amount. Attia's advice is great if you've been living on a junk food diet, a great place to start.

This comment reminds me of my brother in law who is a doctor in Alabama. We were talking about carnivore/HFLC several years ago and he said, “I just want my patients to go from 5 sweet teas a day to 2 sweet teas.”

This is such a dumb post. When I was carnivore I read the book “The Fiber Menace” and like you, told myself I didn’t need it to protect my precious sense of self and beliefs. Then, once you level up, you realize fiber, especially insoluble fiber is critical for toxin removal from the body. Without ingesting some on a daily basis you’re make yourself extremely vulnerable.
