Antim the Ivirian, a Georgian captured and enslaved, rose to become a revered Metropolitan of Wallachia. Skilled in languages, arts, and theology, he revitalized the Romanian Orthodox Church. He established the first printing press in Wallachia, publishing liturgical books in Romanian, and promoted education. His reforms angered local nobles, leading to his exile and death in 1716, when he was drowned in the Tundzha River.

Holy Antim, intercede for us, that we may emulate your zeal for God's word.
