Civilizations have always heard of tales from far away lands about giants, or dragons, or some other earthly anomaly that was simply lore with vague first hand accounts, lies by people in power, and legends told by previous generations. Aliens are simply the next iteration given our extensive exploration of earth and the desire to do the same thing with space. North America to the Vikings or the East Asians was equally as daunting and “limitless” as space is to us. It’s all the same thing, updated to suit our modern civilization.
