What is obvious to you seems spectacular to me. You speak like a quiet cynic person, that just throws all in the same pot.

But there is a systemic difference in governments, that execute questional decisions and a government, that attacks checks and balances, the free press and acts as if it would stand above the law.

In a best case the current US government unites the society in enforcing the democratic foundations. In the worst case, they are successful in their plan to erradicate the foundations.

I am not claiming that european countries are wonderful democracies. But I still would not see examples of higher forms of democracy and freedom in other countries.
