Ostracism and regulation are two separate things.

I can criticize someone for leading a bad life, that doesn't mean I wish to impose my viewpoint on him/her.

Ostracism is part of a free market. The only reason that sounds alarming is because you have, and so have I, been fed propaganda about egalitarianism.
