Home tradies; cost of repairs and maintenance - Fixed price or hourly rate. Just had to have a replacement rangehood installed. Pricing from a specialist installer sight unseen was $300 excl taxes fixed price. Quote from an electrician sight seen $750 excl taxes**. Ended up getting an electrician who just works on hourly rates. 1 hours work, the cost was $120 excl taxes.

** The $750 quote was from a migrant electrician who included a compliance certificate at the cost of $85, and a new external ducting cover, for around $350 because apparently existing one leaking, and the rangehood would be damaged within two years even though the existing one just died after several years with no signs of water damage.

Your $120 guy prob didn’t make any money…

The range of quotes is crazy.

I guess the project was straightforward but 750 man was ready for surprises.

he was here for 1 hour, then left to do another job. the 750 man came and saw the site, power point for rangehood already there. Old rangehood was already removed. It was a straight foward job........he told lies to justify the rip off. 120 guy asked me over the phone - is this a copy and paste - I said yes, he said 120 per hour. I expected him to be 1.5 hours to 2 hours. He was efficient and quick.

Old one removed/disposed is 🤙. I still think of his transport… etc. not to mention you take on liability in ppls house…

Sounds like he’s the man though.

Happy for you.

yeah, i was surprised he didnt charge the transport time. Its good to know the job though......fixed prices have a lot of provisions in them, and if you know your own job and home, you can avoid paying for risks that do not exist. Super stoked......saves my BTC.
