Friend's wife brought a loaf like that to my apt. warming party 24 years ago. She made a dip and took the guts out of the loaf, filled it with the dip and then cut up the guts into bite sized pieces to dip
We buy these from a local bakery, sourdough from the property, organic wheat berries, fresh ground in the bakery, sifted into white flour. We have a good bread knife and slice it into standard 3/8" slices and then cut in half for sandwiches. The kids think store bought foam bread is trash and tastes like paste. Paste is more healthy than the soy bread they load the shelves with in the supermarket. It's more like a psyopmarket.
