"Nobody can afford a home." Because you're trying to get a home you can't afford. Duh! You try to borrow money for a house that costs more than you can afford. Live within your means. Buy a house within your means.

The problem is that everyone else is leveraging debt to bid the prices up while you try to save and can’t seem to ever catch up. Meanwhile the cost of rent goes up for the same reason and you throw money away through that.
