Sure, but you can't ignore the real history of unions - particularly the use of violence to intimidate would-be strikebreakers and employers.
There's also the economic aspect - you can't drive up wages beyond productivity without driving employment volume down. You can't pay a bunch of union reps without that money coming out of workers' paychecks somehow or other.
