Canada is more progressive than the US or UK, but more conservative than New Zealand.
In this case there was a right wing backlash when it was discovered that some Palestinians had immigrated to Canada because they were stateless, got the passport, used it, but didn’t live in Canada. So they made harsh rules about passing down citizenship which mostly caused problems for children of Canadians living in the US and Canadian military families.
