For about 30 years now, I have been collecting hand carved wood sculptures (mostly of animals) that are hand painted from a small village in Oaxaca, Mexico. The men do the carvings and the women do the painting. They are psychedelic looking. I first started buying them in some small international shops in Greenwich Village NY. The merchants would go down to the villages and trade things like Bibles, Levi's jeans and cigarettes for the art. Now I see them being sold all over the place.
