Following on from that, Matthew 7:22-23:

"22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

It's hard to imagine what being face-to-face with the Risen Lord and told "I never knew you" must feels like.

I remember reading this section as an atheist and being really messed up by it. I had always thought that even if I were wrong, that at least I would make it in before these hypocritical christians. Turned out the bar was much higher than I expected and that scared me. By the end of the gospel, He had done a miraculous work in me.
