I am American. You’re right, it’s quite literally in the genes of Americans to distrust authority and strive to live individualistic and prosperous lives as free people.
That’s part of what’s so depressing about modern America - so many people who are unhealthy, both physically and mentally, and have lost their way. They don’t have this longing for freedom anymore because they have been made either financially or physically dependent on the state.
If I’m correct, only about 1/3rd of colonists said they supported revolution against Britain at the time of the war. If we can achieve a critical mass somewhere along those numbers, we will succeed.
