It's been a terrible summer for productivity, we are in drought, no rain for months and a 40° heatwave for the last few days. Most of the veg I started is dead weeks ago, with little water, and I've just been in life support mode for my trees to get them through, although lots have died.

One positive was our plum tree. It produced well without much water and in the heat. Came home yesterday and my wife had whipped up a few jars of delicious plum jam. I'm planning to store one away for winter to celebrate making it through this horrid summer. Got to look at the positives, including my wonderful family.

I think a lot of people don’t realise how bad the drought is but I was reading an article yesterday that our reservoirs are down to the levels of those during the drought in the early 2000s. I also saw a post on Instagram last week from the farmer I buy milk from and she was saying it has been one of the worst seasons her family has seen.

I don’t think it has had the same coverage as previous droughts, even in the local MSM, as we have a desalination plant this time so there are no water restrictions affecting Adelaide. I’ve mainly seen it through IG where I follow some of the farmers I buy from at the markets. I don’t follow much of the MSM either though, usually just a quick look at the news.com.au and ABC websites for anything interesting I should know about.
