We have a house in Austin and our farm in the country. One thing I've noticed is the stark difference between country kids and city kids. There's a much, much higher proportion of city kids that act like little monsters. Country kids will generally be more polite and well-behaved, and able to interact with adults and other kids in normal human ways.
We went to an event at a country cowboy church our farrier invited us to a while back, and out of maybe 30+ kids there, of all ages, not one had a tantrum of any kind all day. A similar group of kids in Austin likely would have produced at least a half-dozen screaming meltdowns.
I have some theories on why this might be; there are definitely multiple factors at work.
Glad you made it home safe and sane. 😉
