I mean, with the current state of clients available and the extant community it's pretty unpalatable to most. The protocol is pretty solid and interesting and has a lot of opportunity but there needs to be a lot of work done on the client front and also in curating an actually-good community. It's interesting how the Fediverse has managed to build really phenomenal communities and clients despite (in my opinion) the protocol being inferior and more taxing to maintain.
