I've realised that a large part of my day to day speech is composed of quotes from the Simpson's, films, non-fiction books and obscure TV sitcoms, with a healthy dose of bro in jokes and phrases that only my friends understand.
In the past, when my friendship group was much larger, people we met often had no idea what we were saying due to the way we spoke. I guess we'd created our own thieves cant or creole language.
We don't all hang out together anymore, but the language stuck.
