Today's society is so fucked up, it doesn't grant you the freedoms you need for your mental health as a human, but it grants you the freedoms you need to slowly (or, if you want, quickly) ruin and kill yourself and other creatures of god.
As for power, the most of it does not go to those who can most be trusted with it.
Neither power or freedom can be entrusted to today's society. Look what we've done. We've set up rivers of blood and we have to face that and survive it before we can have justice and peace.
Those who seek power are unfit to wield it.
