UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Russia to attend the BRICS summit, his first visit to the country in over two years. The three-day meeting aims to promote cooperation among the nine-member organization, which represents nearly half of the world's population. During the summit, Guterres is expected to deliver a speech and meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss issues such as Ukraine and global food and energy security.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has expressed disappointment over Guterres' visit, stating that it does not advance the cause of peace. However, the UN maintains that BRICS holds great importance due to its significant population representation.
