From what I can tell, it has to do with relays going up and down. I’m on two paid relays and it has stabilized after about a week. I think the relays have some backend processes that have to archive the data for the users….but I could be completely wrong on this. I’d suggest getting on a few paid relays get off the free relays to see if it stabilizes.

The paid relays are pulling from the free relays so you shouldn’t lose any followers.

Already have 5-6 paid relays. Also have some non paid. Should I remove those?

I would and see what happens. You can look at my profile, I have two paid relays and one filter from an existing paid relay. But my Damus status shows I’m pulling data from or connected to 7 relays.

You can always add them back if you think you’ve lost some contacts.

Followed!

At least make sure you write to some public relays, doesn’t need to read from them. Relay management will get better and better in clients.

You got any public relays you’d recommend?

I don't have any recommendations, Blockcore Notes have a curated list of default relays, which I modify once in a while. Eventually with some optimizations, most users won't need that many relays, but when you contribute in threads like this, you'd want to ensure that events are written where those in the thread can see them.

Try seeing it in member.cash. That website shows the highest number I’ve seen and I use that as the benchmark
