People can bitch about ledger for this new paid service to split your phrase into 3 shards to be able to be recovered with government ID. Believe me, I don't like it either! But before you start crying out "buy a trezor, buy a trezor" realize that may be the next company to do the same bullshit. Companies who make cold storage devices are no different then the feds or government, can't be trusted. You can't trust anyone. This is why Bitcoin is trusted, because no one runs or owns bitcoin, the trust in the software. Any one of these companies can follow suit with what Ledger did. I have noticed a lot of hot wallets also offering cloud storage as an option. Also not safe. I do see the point, it's to help adopt less tech savvy / unresponsible people. I would never do it. I find the safest method is pen and paper. This is why I will say nay to services like this. But bottom line, what happen with ledger is likely to happen with other companies too. If you trust any company your a sucker.

I had to write this, too many people crying out to buy a trezor. When trezor is likely just as corrupt as ledger. Just as corrupt as Walmart or any corporation.

I plan to hold my bitcoin forever. So I won't be needing my device or firmware updates. In 10 years when more data has come out. I can make a much more educated decision on how I will store it. But for now I can keep sending to my receiving address and just not plug my device in. If I panic and move over to trezor. And trezor does the same thing. I'm out money and frustrated. Might as well see how the next few years play out.

As for cold card, I'm confident I could use it. But I won't be around forever and don't want my family getting confused on how to use it. It is a bit more complex then other wallets.
