Most developers I know would run in terror. You cannot "bond" people artificially by making them uncomfortable. If you really want a gelled team, then literally work together collaboratively. Try Ensemble/Mob programming, for example. Have free-form conversations with customers. Physically get together occasionally (once a week is better than nothing.) No team can be effective (or bonded) if they don't regularly communicate in real-time.
