I think a nice start would be a nice small standalone simple app dedicated to querying people by their petnames. It would fetch all required kind:3 contact lists from you and from people in your network and give you the network-extended name for any npub you pasted there.

Or do the reverse way and find an npub from the network-extended name you pasted, again, by querying all the contact lists.
