#asknostr Do you go to a local #bitcoin meet-up? What's the format, formal or informal? Is there an agenda? Is the leadership clearly defined, or more nebulous? Is buying/selling locally produced goods for sats encouraged? How do you coordinate group communication?

I'm shooting from the hip here, y'all, gimmie some guidance!

Semis organization is best; need a structure to follow

- monthly topics

- quarterly events (like farmers market, etc.)

*******Absolute must for P2P commerce demoninated in sats*******

Nostr is the communication protocol

Best is a mesh network with #Reticulum or #Meshtastic between members

I like the sound of that

The only way I can answer is just my experience. Just over a year ago I posted a few notes, and actually found a few locals interested in meeting up.

Today, we have an awesome bunch.

I think much of our success early on was making the first several meetups just a social event. Nothing more than simply getting together with other bitcoiners, and casually just talking. Our first meet was Buffalo Wild Wings, a safe public space, horrible food, but you could converse maybe have a drink. Those were the best times, we didn’t stress the future, the group, talk about renting/buying a HQ… just good times. But as we have grown, we started simple? Mix up 20% of the time just to show everyone how a miner works… as you grow your group will gradually start wanting structure, maybe do a few slide shows, a workshop, wallet or transaction demos, nostr etc.

It’s important to simply spend the time and keep the commitment. Eventually everyone becomes closer and the consensus has a vision, and things happen and escalate organically.

Just show up, everything else falls into place.

A topic is usually organized for discussion and followed by a hangout over a meal. Some meetups are more casual at a restaurant and some in a building space might have a PowerPoint/speaker. I think mixing it up is fun. Discussions can get dry after a while. Activities create stronger relationships with group members and help people get to know each other. The Orange Pill & Meetup apps are most often used. Group chats are really helpful for frequent participants. People that have goods to sell seem to be welcome in most groups but I’ve not always heard everyone encourage it.
