If you went back in time to kill Hitler then you'd have no reason to go back in time in the first place so you couldn't be there to kill Hitler.

I feel like I learned some metaphysical argument to get around this paradox years ago, but I don’t remember how it worked 🤔

Multiverse theory is one of the quantum mechanics responses to this. It literally states that a parallel universe for each outcome of the paradox will be created.
