I don't get what exactly are you paying for.

Other privacy related products (VPNs, email, chat, etc) require some level of trust but there is always some tangible verifiable benefit.

no ads, highly refined search parameters (lenses) no tracking, ability to block or boost domains in sesrch results, higher quality content, baked in ai to get "quick answers" and much more, bangs, zero telemetry, etc. it's a privacy-respecting AI search engine on steroids

also the universal summerizer is pretty damn awesome

I don't mean to bash, just trying to understand.

No ads, trackers or telemetry can just be achieved with an adblocker.

DDG has bangs and other alternatives support ddg-style bangs.

I didn't know about all the AI stuff, that sounds more compelling and differenciating. Unless it feeds off user profiling behavior.

no worries. i totally get that. in addition to providing a premium seatch experiemce, they don't make money off of ads or trying to collect and sell user data and i'm a big fan of that. check it out. lmk what you think

My only gripe with Kagi is it requires an account. And a "Trust me bro" that they are not logging search queries, since it's not OSS. Albeit, a throwaway account can be used. And, I love that they accept lightning.

Otherwise, I'm an Orion+ supporter as I believe in a browser like that needs to exist for Apple users. Really like what Vlad has been building overall with the various product suite.

The account thing is also my only concern. Everything else is just great. I have been using for a week+ and now going back to DDG feels like a downgrade.

trust happens with every search company. remember what happened with ddg and microsoft? anyway yeah, keep your privacy stack. use a fingerprint resistent browser like #Mullvad or #LibreWolf and vpn, and just sign up with an email alias, and privacy.com card or btc/lightning for payments and you're gtg

True. Or, take the need for trust side out of the equation and build your own SearX instance, even though sadly its codebase is no longer maintained.

yup. i used to use it. i support the foss, pay for privacy model for exactly this reason and more.
