Back in the 2017 bull run, I had a coworker who was convinced Ripple was going to be the global payment layer by 2020.

Every day was #XRP evangelism: charts, partnerships, “bank adoption” hype, even a Ripple branded t-shirt he wore proudly in the office. His cubicle looked like a VC-backed altar to centralized disappointment.

No matter how many times I explained it was a pre-mined, corporate driven, banker-friendly coin with the absolute worst evangelists behind it, he insisted it was “Bitcoin, but better.”

I wish him nothing but the best.

It is sad to watch people not go through the work of learning. I’ve dug deep on every single XRP rumor, none of them are real. All fabricated marketing.

Dozer, you seem like an objective, smart dude. I’d be curious on your thoughts on Kaspa (not in a is it better than Bitcoin kind of way).

Awww shucks Cody. We just mer so I have plenty of time to change your mind on my intelligence level.

As for Kaspa, I think it’s the most promising scaling experiments in PoW in the last 4 years. Its early days so it will have to pass centralization pressure, performance ceilings, and economic tests Bitcoin already survived so I’d be skeptical when dipping into any other projects. Start with the fundamentals and compare and contrast with btc as the standard to meet.

Speaking strictly fundamentals, how do you feel Kaspa compares to Bitcoin?

Different consensus rules, shorter block time, different mining algo, supports smart contracts, larger cap supply, “smooth exponential decay” instead of halvings

Other than time, do you see any issues with it?

I’d be cautious around anything that offers “smart contracts” and “DeFi”. In the past, these have gathered quite a following of scammers. There is also centralized risk here since mining this thing comes with heavy requirements as well as running a node. I also see mentions of missing block history as well which is never a good thing. I’d treat this like a casino 🎰 until time reveals all the gaps here.

There’s no smart contracts or Defi at this time. It is open sourced though and a couple of companies (KASPlex and Igra) are trying to build out smart contracts

What do you mean by mining it comes with heavy requirements? And I guess you’re talking about running a full node vs a pruned?

I have studied the missing blocks issue 3 or so years ago. This does cause some pause for concern.

Got it 👍 You seem to have done your own research here as well so I would go with your gut.

I’ve played the field when first coming into the space and got burned more times than I can count so you can say I’m a bit skeptical of any newish project. I applaud anyone for innovating and thinking differently. I wish you luck on this experiment moving forward.

Roger. Thanks for the back and forth. I just enjoy discussing innovation and challenging ideas. Have a good one brother.
