I agree with the sentiment but Im thinking of websites that use google ads and the like to monetize their content. I think we are so used to the WWW being free, that it would be difficult.

To the Adblock with them. Advertising is already illegal in my world. Pi-hole jail.

They can detect that.......I am very selective of websites now.....subscribing is the best way, but we need more ability to pay in Bitcoin.

Maybe, luckily I never have any problems with blocking ads. I'm free to modify the data on my computers & networks as I see fit, including not viewing things I find objectionable. If anything, blocking ad trackers is a sensible security precaution.

Same 🤝 All the devices connected to my home network cannot even resolve the IP addresses of advertising and tracking domains.

Fortunately legislation is not required to opt out if you care about such things.
