Although I appreciate the recommendation, this book is very verbose and assumes the reader is already familiar with the terminology surrounding debate.
It uses terms like *negationem consequentiae* casually and without explanation.
This book isn't intended for the novice, that's for sure.
Yes, I don't know of a friendlier book. I read it ten years ago, and the important ideas that stuck with me were that manners and reading the room are more important.
In my humble opinion, the Twitter format is superior for debates.
Oh, and I read it in Spanish — perhaps the translator deserves the credit!
