How come I canāt block entire area codes on a phone?

I hate needing a phone number. I do everything I can to keep phone calls from interrupting my day. Pretty much only my wife and mom have the privilege of getting me on the phone immediately.
I mute all the calls from phone numbers that arenāt in my close contacts list. If itās anything urgent or important, they will leave a message, of which Iāll get a text transcript. Most of the time they wonāt.
