They cheated by having lower cost housing. OTOH, we have amazing tech and cheap flights. :-)
If you live at home with your parents, it's an amazing time. If you wanted to be independent at 18, it's awful especially when your competition is also being subsidized by their parents.
FWIW, in the case of the video, I suspect the parents bought the house back when those things were cheap, and if they're in a state with pensions for teachers, they didn't need to be as hard or aggressive with retirement savings compared to other white collar workers. I see similar things at my job where the older workers pay less into the pension with a better return, while the newer workers will pay more with less payouts compared to previous generations. We have less free cash flow, and housing costs more.
