Capitalism is different from the free market, they are not exactly the same. The market existed in ancient towns. The Romans, the Chinese (they were a very high-level trading people) and other peoples on Earth such as India or the Muslim world were worlds in which trade was highly developed and with very advanced commercial techniques. What they were not was capitalists. Capitalism is savings invested systematically through principles of profit and loss using prices and using monetary calculation. What used to be earning and spending is now earning and partly saving and investing with the criteria that prices and stock markets teach us
