How does one fix “channel reserves unmet” on Alby hub and why does this happen? #asknostr
Discussion
The channel needs a little amoun locked on each side to act as a reserve, a good faith bond of sorts.
When an LSP opens a channel to your node, they can decide to push that amount to your side or not. If they don't, the first liquidity to come in will be used to fill up that reserve, and you won't be able to move it.
To fix the issue, send yourself some sats from another wallet. Once that reserve gets filled up, your channel will be fully operational.
Can’t send. I tried but nothing goes through
That's strange... have your tried zapping yourself a bit over the reserve amount, or just generating an invoice?
I don’t even know what the reserve amount is. There’s no tooltip or anything to indicate what’s wrong or what to do about it.
Channel reserves is the amount set aside to cover the fees when the channel closes in the future. You should see the amount in the channel info in AlbyHub.
You have to pass that limit before the channel is usable.
Mine shows 0. But there is no option to do anything so I don’t know what I’m supposed to do about it 🤷♂️
And why is it 0 to begin with?
This is what I'm getting...
The reserve is auto-funded from your side of the channel when you open it.
You don’t have to do anything extra—the reserve comes out of the funds you allocate when opening the channel.
You cannot spend your reserve, but it stays yours and is returned if/when the channel closes.
Perhaps try to deposit some sats over what it tells you is required into your on-chain part of the hub. There is a drop down in upper right side to do this.
