Zaps is potentially a great manipulation tool. Basically allows an entity to reward certain types of behavior.

For example, I replied to provide what I saw in an inkblot art. The author says: "hey, add this hashtag and you'll get a zap" this is a small thing, I am not upset by it or anything. Hell, it's smart.

Just imagine a large entity use zaps to reward certain opinions, or calls to action?

Some rando calls for violence, entity who wants said violence rewards handsomely. Another rando sees the reward, and they start calling for the same. Rinse and repeat until a mob thats been hacked to behave the way the entity wants.

True :-(

We already have that, zaps just increase the number of people who can do it.

I didn't say it didn't exist. I just thinking that manipulation of this kind with real value (not likes) is now much less frictionless.

True

That would be substantially more open and transparent than current manipulation schemes.

Great point!

Every good thing is subject to distortion, perversion, and misuse in the hands of sinners. This here is among the many examples showing that the "bitcoin fixes this" and "fix the money fix the world" refrains have their limits.

Bitcoin fixes a lot, it can help correct many bad incentives, but it cannot fundamentally change the human heart. It is a tool that should be used righteously but cannot make us righteous, stewarded faithfully but cannot make us faithful. Only Christ can do so.

Good points and good replies.

I enjoy zapping but feel a bit uneasy about it as a beginner. This may be one reason.

It seems other platforms will deploy this soon. Imagine, kids will start using, etc. In general, this should be adult stuff.

I think your intent matters.

If your intentions are good then I would not worry or hold back because of someone else with potentially bad intentions.

In fact, my sense of people on here is most a good people. So I wouldn't be overly concerned.
