Those engineers had seen jets be developed, produced, fielded, and scrapped in less than a decade, like clockwork. They always thought they were adding another note in a fast moving symphony of american engineering….without realizing they were writing the coda.

Now their inheritors, squatting in the ruins of their laboratories, wielding their slide rules like ritual devices instead of precision tools, unveil their NEW and CUTTING EDGE fighter: a 50-year old design with a bunch of new electronics. A pastiche of every incremental upgrade over the years, jammed into a new airframe to the fanfare of an all-original machine.
