Tô which extent they didn't make the choice of becoming soldiers to protect "the revolution"? Weren't they expecting this scenario given they are supposedly to be trained for war?
Asking genuinely not as an attack, just wondering out of pure ignorance, is this the only choice they had to get bread on their families table?
It's the easiest one, to be loyal to and protect the government
They are indoctrinated from a young age; they don't make the decision freely, even if they nod their heads in agreement... it's a hypothesis, I don't know who they are, and they've already paid the price

We are all inductrinated from a young age, and it takes a lot of time and hard work to unlearn all that ... most never make it in their lifetime.
I agree, however, the specific case of Cuba is one of the most difficult... it's only been a few years since we've had access to the internet and started seeing the world... even the person I was a few years ago is very different from the person I am now with this newfound openness
This reminds I heard of North Korea indoctrinating their citizens saying they are the biggest and best country ever.
